EDINBURG, Texas--- The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped the 2012 seasonopener against the Abilene Prairie Dogs 4-0 Wednesday night at EdinburgBaseball Stadium in front of 2,871 in attendance.
The ball game remained scoreless until the top of thefourth when the Prairie Dogs (1-0) broke through against Miguel Martinez. Nick Ochoa hit a one-out double to rightcenter field and then came in to score on Bryan Fogle’s RBI double. One out later, Reggie Williams hit an RBIsingle that allowed Fogle to score making it 2-0 Abilene.
The Prairie Dogs added to their lead in the top of thesixth with a solo homerun by Joe Weik that made it 3-0.
In the top of the ninth, Abilene picked up anotherrun. Nick Ochoa led off the inning witha walk and then moved to third on a two-out single by Williams. Eddie Browne then followed with an RBI singleto center scoring Ochoa to make it 4-0 Prairie Dogs.
Adam Rowe (1-0) got the win after pitching sevenshut-out innings and scattering five hits with two strikeouts.
Martinez (0-1) got the tough luck loss for Edinburg(0-1) after pitching eight innings and allowing three runs on nine hits andfour strikeouts.
The Roadrunners and Prairie Dogs will continue theirfour-game series Thursday night. DaveDinelli is scheduled to start for the Roadrunners and will oppose Abilene’sBrad Tullins.
