SAN ANGELO, Texas— The Edinburg Roadrunners scored four runs in the opening inning and never looked back as they defeated the San Angelo Colts 13-6 Friday night at Foster Field.
Derek Perren went three-for-four with two homeruns, four RBI and four runs scored.
Wilmer Pino and Perren got the scoring started as each hit a two-run homerun in the top of the first to give the Roadrunners the 4-0 lead.
Edinburg (12-10) added three runs in the top of the fourth and three more in the fifth inning to push their lead to 10-0.
San Angelo (10-11) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homerun by Ronnie Gaines that made it 10-1 in favor of the Roadrunners.
An RBI groundout by Perren in the top of the sixth allowed Pino to score from third which made it 11-1 Edinburg.
The Colts cut into the Roadrunners lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jamar Walton hit a two-run double that allowed Landon Camp and Cory Patton to score. Josh Banda then followed with a two-run homerun that cut the Roadrunners lead 11-5.
Edinburg got a run back in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Stantrel Smith that allowed Osiel Flores to score making it 12-5.
After allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh, the Roadrunners answered back with Perren’s second homerun of the game that made it 13-6.
Aaron Tullo (1-0) got the win after allowing four runs on five hits and striking out four.
The Roadrunners and Colts will continue their four-game series Saturday night at Foster Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
