Roadrunners Sweep Colts

07/14/2012 5:59 AM -

Edinburg, Texas --- Dave Dinelli tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout, leading the Edinburg Roadrunners to a 3-0 win over the Colts Friday night at Edinburg Stadium.

It was the third time the Colts have been swept this season, but the first time they have been shut out by an opponent. San Angelo went just 1-8 on its nine-game road trip to Harlingen and Edinburg.

Dinelli (2-5) struck out a season-high 10 batters and walked seven in the win. Colts’ starter Brian Henschel (3-5) also went the distance in a losing effort. He gave up three runs on eight hits and four walks in eight innings.

Edinburg took a 1-0 lead in the first, thanks to an RBI single by third baseman Carlos Hereaud. He also scored the third run of the night on an RBI base hit by shortstop Felix Molina.

The Roadrunners scored their second run in the fifth inning. Right fielder Tim Battle led off with an infield single, and then stole second and third base. With one out, Battle scored on second baseman Wilmer Pino’s sacrifice fly to center.

The Colts had men on base from the sixth inning on, but were unable to drive anyone home.

The win improves Edinburg to a league-best 30-18, while the loss drops San Angelo to 22-25.
