EDINBURG, Texas— Jose Oyervidez pitched seven strong innings leading the Edinburg Roadrunners past the McAllen Thunder 3-2 for their fourth straight wing Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Oyervidez (1-0), who signed just before the ball game, allowed one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts in his Edinburg debut.
McAllen (27-47) jumped out in front in the top of the first on an RBI single by Henry Gonzalez that made it 1-0.
Carlos Hereaud got the Roadrunners (45-29) on the board in the bottom of the second with his seventh home run of the season tying the game at one.
In the bottom of the third, Tim Battle reached on an error and then moved to third on a passed ball. Stantrel Smith then hit an RBI ground out that allowed Battle to score giving Edinburg the 2-1 lead.
The Thunder answered back in the top of the fourth tying the game on an RBI single by Matt Redding that allowed Miguel Alfonzo to score from second.
Vincent Blue started things for the Roadrunners in the bottom of the sixth with a one out walk. One out later, Blue came around to score on a two-out RBI double by Hereaud that gave them the 3-2 lead.
After Julio Castro got the final out in the top of the eighth, he pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for his 12th save of the season giving Edinburg the 3-2 victory.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will continue their four-game series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
