ROADRUNNERS WIN HOME OPENER

06/11/2009 11:00 PM - EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners started the 2009 season with a 10-6 victory over the Laredo Broncos on Thursday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.



Argelis Nunez got the Broncos on the scoreboard first with an RBI single in the first inning that scored Steven right from second base.



The Broncos added to their lead when Mario Mendez (1) hit a solo homerun to lead off the top of the fourth inning. They would add two more to their lead in the fourth inning to make the score 4-0.



The Roadrunners answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning when Osiel Flores hit an RBI single into center field that scored Amado German to make the score 4-1. Nick Aranda brought in the other run with an RBI groundout which allowed Angel Reyes to cut the lead in half at 4-2.



Pedro Flores made the opening day start but did not factor in the decision. He was pulled from the game in the fifth inning after Miguel Ortiz brought in Nunez with an RBI groundout which made the score 5-3.



Austin Bridges (1-0) picked up his first career win in his first career appearance. Bridges pitched an inning and a third allowing no runs and striking out two in relief of Flores.



The Roadrunners scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the sixth, and three in the seventh innings. Vincent Blue and Carlos Hereaud had a hit and three RBIs apiece.



Bridges, Bryan Heaston, Bryan Herrera, and Ricardo Serrano combined for four and a third innings pitched and allowed one run on three hits tonight’s relief.



The Edinburg Roadrunners (1-0) and the Laredo Broncos (0-1) with play game two of their four game series Friday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya will square off against Gregorio Martinez with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.



The Roadrunners are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas that include Amarillo, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Rio Grande Valley and San Angelo.
