Roadrunners Drop Third Straight

EDINBURG, Texas— The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped their third game in a row as they fell 5-1 to the McAllen Thunder Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

 

Nick Mahin got the Thunder (15-27) out in front in the top of the first with a two-run double that scored Craig Hertler and Mike Goss.  Nathan Tomaszewski then followed with an RBI ground out that allowed Brian Nichols to score making it 3-0.

 

A fielding error in the top of the fifth allowed McAllen to score two more runs pushing their lead 5-0.

 

The Roadrunners (25-17) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Cristobal Santana reached with a single and then moved to second on a walk to Eric Bloom.  Tim Battle then lined an RBI single to left field scoring Santana from second cutting the Thunder lead 5-1.

 

In his second start of the season, Alex Smith (1-0) allowed just one run on four hits in six innings worked while striking out three. 

 

Dave Dinelli (1-5) pitched a complete game but allowed five runs, three earned, with six strike outs.  

 

Kurt Houck pitched the final three innings of the game and did not allow a run for his third save of the season giving McAllen the 5-1 victory.

 

The Roadrunners and Thunder will continue their series Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Osvaldo Rodriguez (2-0) is expected to face Frank James (3-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
