Molina Lifts Roadrunners Past Colts

 

EDINBURG, Texas— Felix Molina delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th to lift the Edinburg Roadrunners past the San Angelo Colts 2-1 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. 

 

With the scored tied at one and runners at second and third, Molina hit a single through the infield that drove in the winning run for the Roadrunners (47-30). 

 

Osiel Flores got the scoring started in the bottom of the third with a leadoff solo homerun, his first of the season, making it 1-0 Edinburg.

 

The Colts (38-39) tied things in the top of the sixth off of Matison Smith.  With a runner at first and two outs, Danny Hernandez hit an RBI double that scored Jamar Walton.

 

Smith pitched seven innings and allowed just one run with six strikeouts but received the no decision.

 

In the bottom of the 11th, Wilmer Pino led off the inning with a single and then moved to second after Carlos Hereaud was hit by a pitch.  After Derek Perren moved the runners up on a sacrifice bunt, Felix Molina hit an RBI single with the infield that scored Pino from third giving Edinburg the 2-1 victory.

 

Tetsuya Iwasaki (3-0) earned the win after pitching two innings of relief where he did not allow a run with one strikeout.

 

David Phillips (1-2) took the loss after giving up the winning run in the bottom of the 11th.

 

The Roadrunners and Colts will play game two of their four-game series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.  Dave Dinelli (4-8) is expected to face Mike Hart (5-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
