The Edinburg Roadrunners of United League Baseball announced today they have signed infielders Felix Molina and Wilson Batista, outfielder Hunter Owen and pitchers Jonas Cuotto and Ricardo Serrano for the 2010 season.
Owen, out of Jackson, Mississippi, returns to Edinburg after the 2009 Roadrunners season where he ended the season with a .281 batting average, while posting 6 home runs in just 42 games.
Also, returning is right-handed pitcher Ricardo Serrano, from Baldwin Park, California, who held a 1.80 ERA in 25 innings of work in his rookie season for Edinburg.
Molina, from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, has played affiliated ball since 2001 as a member of Minnesota Twins organization. Last year was to the Houston Astros, where he spent the summer of 2009 inCorpus Christi. He held a .239 batting average while notching five home runs and 25 RBI’s in 70 games for the Hooks.
Batista, from the Dominican Republic, spent his last two seasons in the Atlantic League with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In 2009, Batista posted a .302 batting average with 21 RBI’s in 53 games.
Cuotto, a right-handed pitcher from Venezuela, has been with the Blue Jays organization since 2003 and was with Lansing in the Midwest League last year. In 36 games for the Lugnuts, Cuotto pitched 86.2 innings, facing 420 batters and striking out 68.
The Roadrunners will be holding tryouts at Edinburg Baseball Stadium May 19th starting at 9 a.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Cost of tryouts is $40 per person and players must supply their own equipment.
