ROADRUNNERS OUTSLUGGED BY DILLAS

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners allowed 19 hits in a 14-6 loss to the Amarillo Dillas Wednesday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.  The game was called after seven innings due to rain.

 

Mark DiBernardo (5-2) picked up his second loss of the season after pitching just two innings and a third and allowing nine runs on 12 hits.   

 

The Roadrunners (29-14) got on the board against Chris Holguin (1-0) in the top of the first.  Wilmer Pino led off with a single to right field and then stole second base.  After moving to third, Pino came into score on a passed ball making it 1-0.

 

Amarillo (27-19) answered back with an RBI double by Rob Recuenco that allowed Stephen Douglas to score tying the game at one.

 

The Dillas sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the third against DiBernardo and scored six runs on six hits giving Amarillo a 7-1 lead.

 

Robert Matlock and Carlos Hereaud had back-to-back singles with one out in the top of the fourth.  Vincent Blue then hit a two-run triple that scored Matlock and Hereaud and an error by the Dillas defense allowed Blue to score making it 7-4 Amarillo.

 

In the bottom of the fourth, Stephen Douglas hit a two-run home run extending the Dillas lead 9-4. 

 

Hereaud picked up his third hit of the game in the top of the sixth and then moved to second after Blue was walked.  Alexis Hernandez hit an RBI single that allowed Hereaud to score from second.  With two outs, Pino hit an RBI single to center field that drove in Blue cutting the Dillas lead to 9-6.

 

Two errors in the bottom of the sixth inning helped Amarillo score three runs against Edinburg reliever Evan Cunningham extending their lead 12-6.

 

The Dillas added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh with on an RBI double by Daryl Jones and an RBI ground out by Douglas making it 14-6.

 

The game was called after the seventh inning because of rain and lightning giving Amarillo the 14-6 victory.

 

The Roadrunners and Dillas will play the third game of their four-game series Thursday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.  Eric Montoya is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
