LAREDO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners scored five runs in the ninth and three in the eleventh to beat the Laredo Broncos 9-6 Monday night at Veterans Field.
Trailing 6-1 in the top of the ninth, Edinburg rallied with five runs to tie the game before scoring the go ahead runs in the top of the eleventh on Vincent Blue’s second home run of the season.
The Roadrunners (32-16) got the scoring started in the top of the second. Ambiorix Concepcion and Robert Matlock started the inning with back-to-back singles. A fly ball by Alexis Hernandez moved runners to second and third and then Blue followed with an RBI ground-out scoring Concepcion from third and giving Edinburg the 1-0 lead.
Salvador Paniagua started the bottom of the fourth with a single against Mark DiBernardo. Jonathan Cisneros followed with a single that put runners at first and second for Nick Mahin who hit an RBI single scoring Paniagua tying the game at one. After D.J. Dixon loaded the bases with a single, Ryan Flynn hit into a double-play that allowed Cisneros to score giving Laredo the 2-1 lead.
Laredo (24-28) added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Cisneros that allowed Carlos Arroyo to score making it 3-1.
Dixon hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth making it 4-1 Broncos.
More runs came for Laredo in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly from Mahin that allowed Arroyo to score from third. Dixon followed with an RBI single to left field that allowed Paniagua to score extending the Broncos lead to 6-1.
Blue reached on a fielding error to start the ninth inning against Maximinio De La Cruz. Back-to-back hits by Melvin Perez and Wilmer Pino loaded the bases for Carlos Hereaud who hit a three-run triple. Concepcion cut into the Broncos lead with an RBI single scoring Hereaud from third. After a Matlock single, Hernandez hit an RBI single scoring Concepcion tying the game at six.
Ray Silva (1-1) worked out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the tenth keeping the game tied at six.
In the top of the eleventh, Matlock was walked and then moved to second on a single by Hernandez. Blue then hit a three-run home run off of Steve Raburn (1-1) giving the Roadrunners the 9-6 lead.
Silva got a double-play to end the game in the bottom of the eleventh giving Edinburg the 9-6 victory.
The Roadrunners and Broncos will wrap up their four-game series Tuesday night at Veterans Field. Eric Montoya (5-1) is expected to face Santo Hernandez (4-3) with the first pitched scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
