EDINBURG, Texas—The Edinburg Roadrunners snapped their four-game losing streak with a 10-7 win over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
C.J. Beatty, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, gave the Roadrunners the lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run, his 10th of the season, making it 2-0.
The WhiteWings (29-24) responded with a run of their own in the top of the second. Edgar Trejo hit an RBI ground rule double that allowed Wilmer Pino to score cutting Edinburg’s lead 2-1.
The Roadrunners (23-31) got the run back in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Derek Marshall that allowed Stantrel Smith to score from second pushing the lead 3-1.
In the top of the fifth, Antonio De Jesus hit an RBI double scoring Gabriel Ortiz getting RGV within one at 3-2.
Beatty delivered in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run single that allowed R.J. Harris and Brandon Wilkerson to score extending the Roadrunners lead 5-2.
Edinburg added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Marshall hit a two-out two run single that scored Robert Matlock and Osiel Flores making it 7-2.
RGV climbed back into the game in the top of the seventh against the Roadrunners pitching staff. David Peralta hit a two-run single that allowed Francisco Santana and De Jesus to score. Gerardo Avila then followed with a two-run home run cutting Edinburg’s lead 7-6.
A three-run home run by Flores in the bottom of the seventh off of WhiteWings reliever Elvis Hernandez increased the Roadrunners lead 10-6.
After RGV added a run in the top of eighth, Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save of the season giving Edinburg the 10-7 victory.
Blake Parry (2-3) picked up the win after pitching six and a third and allowing five runs on six hits and striking out three.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the second game of their four-game series Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Scott Wingo (3-3) is expected to face Eric Blackwell (4-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
