Roadrunners Lose Third In a Row

 

FORT WORTH, Texas—The Edinburg Roadrunners lost their third-straight game on the road with a 9-4 loss to the Fort Worth Cats Monday night at LaGrave Field.

 

C.J. Beatty started the bottom of the first with a single and then moved to second on an error.  One out later, Shelby Ford hit an RBI single scoring Beatty for the 1-0 lead.

 

The Roadrunners (41-29) answered back to tie things at one with a solo homerun by Carlos Hereaud in the top of the second.

 

Another fielding error led to a Fort Worth (39-31) 4run in the bottom of the second.  After Brandon Jones reached on the error, he came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Derek Marshall that gave the Cats the 2-1 lead.

 

Chuck Caufield added another run for the Cats in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun and then they added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings for the 7-1 lead.

 

Edinburg got a two-run triple from Luis Sumoza in the top of the eighth that cut into the Fort Worth lead but R.J. Harris quickly got those runs back with a two-run homerun in the bottom half of the eighth making it 9-3.

 

Blake Parry (4-3) gave the Cats seven and two-third innings and allowed three runs on 11 hits for his fourth win of the season.

 

In the top of the ninth, the Roadrunners got a run with three straight singles that was capped by an RBI single by Wilmer Pino that scored Stantrel Smith but Kane Holbrooks struck out Carlos Hereaud giving the Cats the 9-4 victory.

 

The Roadrunners and Cats will continue their four-game series Tuesday night at LaGrave Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
