ROADRUNNERS SNAP THREE-GAME SKID

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners avoided the sweep with a 10-3 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium on Sunday night.

Danny Rondon (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after he allowed three runs while scattering four hits in six innings of work.

Bryon Smith gave Rondon a 1-0 lead with his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the WhiteWings intentionally walked Robert Matlock to face Carlos Hereaud with the bases loaded.  Hereaud then hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Osiel Flores from third.  Matlock then stole second base but the ball got away from the second baseman which allowed Nick Aranda to come in and score from third that made it 3-0 in favor of the Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single to center field by Flores that scored Gonzalez from second base which extended the lead to 4-0.

The first three hitters of the top of the seventh inning reached for the WhiteWings.  A two-run single to center field by Juan Cabrera allowed Brian Nichols and Alberto Cruz to score the first two runs of the game for RGV.  Sandy De Leon then singled to center that allowed Angel Reyes to score from third which made the score 4-3.

Edinburg responded in the bottom of the seventh by sending nine hitters to the plate.  Wilmer Pino and Matlock singled to lead off the seventh.  Hereaud then followed with an RBI single to left field that scored Pino from third.  Hunter Owen loaded the bases after he was hit by a pitch by WhiteWings pitcher Juan Jimenez.  Smith then hit a two-run single to left field that drove in Matlock and Hereaud.  Vincent Blue continued the inning with a two-run triple that allowed Owen and Smith to score from second and third.  Gonzalez capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI-ground out that allowed Blue to score from third which made it a 10-3 game.

Bryan Heaston and Kelly Casares combined for three scoreless innings in relief for Rondon.

The Roadrunners will begin a four-game series with the Coastal Bend Thunder on Monday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.  Pedro Flores (2-3) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
