SAN ANGELO, TEXAS ---- Hunter Owen went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run that helped the Edinburg Roadrunners defeat the San Angelo Colts 4-3 Friday night at Foster Field.
Danny Rondon (3-0) picked up his third win of the season after he allowed two runs while scattering six hits and striking out two in six innings pitched.
Owen got the Roadrunners (24-25) on the board in the top of the first inning with a two-out RBI single that scored Carlos Hereaud from second which gave Edinburg an early 1-0 lead.
Owen extended the Roadrunners’ lead in the top of the fourth with another two-out hit this time a two-run home run off of Colt’s starter Kenny Elkind (3-1) which made the score 3-0.
The Colts (34-15) got on the board in the top of the fifth inning against Rondon when Ronnie Gaines hit the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a two-run home run that cut Edinburg’s lead down to one with the score 3-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, Vincent Blue hit an RBI single to left center field that allowed Bryon Smith to score from second which extended the Roadrunners lead to 4-2.
Kelly Casares pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the season.
The Roadrunners and the Colts will play the second game of this four-game series on Saturday night at Foster Field.Pedro Flores (3-3) is expected to face Ezequiel Astacio (6-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
