Roadrunners Late Rally Falls Short

08/17/2013 10:37 PM -

FORT WORTH, Texas— The Edinburg Roadrunners late rally in the ninth inning falls short against the Fort Worth Cats by a score of 6-5 on Saturday night at La Grave Field.

With the win, the Cats are only one win from claiming the United League Championship Series.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the four when the Cats (2-1) score the first run of the game. Chris Ellison hit a double with one out, and then moved to third on a Greg Bachman single. Ellison would score on a wild pitch for the first run of the game.

Edinburg (1-2) would tie the game in the top of the fifth on an error that allowed Carlton Salters who reached base with a double.

Fort Worth regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs that made it 3-1 highlighted by a RBI single by David Bergin.

The Roadrunners made a rally in the top of the seventh innings scoring three runs that produced RBIs from Jordan Etier, Trevor Whyte, and Travis Clark that cut the deficit to 6-5.

In the eighth and ninth innings, the Roadrunners had runners on base and could not capitalize on the opportunities to regain the lead.

Will Krout (1-0) earned the win pitching six and one-third innings allowing nine hits and four earned runs for the Cats.

Mike Loseke (0-1) took the tough loss for Edinburg tossing five innings permitting nine hits and five runs while striking out four.

Trevor Longfellow earned his first save of the series tossing a scoreless ninth inning allowing two hits.

The Roadrunners and Cats will play game four of the best-of-five United League Championship Series on Sunday evening with the first pitch at 6:05 pm at La Grave Field.
